Atlanta Streets Alive takes over Downtown, Midtown this weekend

Although the streets of Atlanta are usually dominated by cars, for a few hours this weekend, some simpler forms of transportation will take over one of the city's most famous thoroughfares.

This Sunday, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Atlanta Streets Alive will shut down a 2.7 mile section of Peachtree Street for people to use for whatever they want - including but not limited to biking, skating, break dancing, rapping, and pushing cats in strollers.…

Grand jury indictment alleges state Rep. Tyrone Brooks, D-Atlanta, misappropriated charity funds

A federal grand jury today indicted state Rep. Tyrone Brooks, D-Atlanta, a longtime lawmaker and civils rights activist, for mail, wire, and tax fraud.

U.S. Attorney Sally Yates said the 30-count indictment accuses Brooks, who's served under the Gold Dome since 1993, of misappropriating nearly $1 million in donations he solicited for two charitable organizations.…
