Every journey must come to an end (promise!), and so it is with the broadcast of the Metropolitan Opera's Ring Cycle. Komen Foundation executive Karen Handel spoke with Fox News Pepper Spray Correspondent Megyn Kelly in her first interview since she's been accused of swaying the nonprofit to cut funding to Planned Parenthood.

Handel, who resigned her senior vice president of public policy with Komen this morning, says to suggest that she had the sole authority in the controversial funding decision is "absurd."

“Last time I checked, private, non-profit organizations have a right and a responsibility to be able to set the highest standards in criteria on their own, without interference, let alone the level of vicious attacks and coercion that’s occurred by Planned Parenthood,” Handel said, “It’s simply outrageous.”

Notice the lengths Handel goes to to gush over Komen.…

The legendary choreographer collaborates with the Atlanta Ballet for a new high-profile work
            by Andrew Alexander
If the name Twyla Tharp evokes an image of a twirling pixie of a dancer with eager eyes, a perky smile, and Peter Pan haircut, you've obviously never met her. There exist a few photographs, mostly from the '70s and '80s, in which this superficial vision could be said to match some version of reality.…

More than 70 films from around the world on view through February
            by Curt Holman
For 12 years, the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival has programmed movies about Jewish life and culture, yet despite that potential restriction, the event projects a global inclusiveness. Of the 70 narrative and documentary films at this year's festival, a significant majority come from other countries, including France, Germany, Russia, the Czech Republic, and Israel.…

Above, check out a video for "After it's Gone," a song written by Drive-By Truckers frontman Patterson Hood and featuring a group called the Downtown 13 - a crew that includes other Athens luminaries like Mike Mills of R.E.M. and Widespread Panic's John Bell. The song, linked to a group called Protect Downtown Athens, is a response to a proposed development by Atlanta-based Selig Enterprises that would see a brand new Walmart erected on downtown Athens' scenic eastern edge.…

I think I can say without controversy that if you really want to celebrate Charles Dickens' 200th birthday, the best way is to read one of his actual books. Recognizing that might require more time than most people can commit to in one evening, you could alternatively watch a movie adaptation.…

Crispin Glover is perhaps best known for his roles in blockbusters such as Charlie’s Angles, Alice in Wonderland and of course, Back to the Future. But his scene-stealing characters in films like David Lynch’s Wild at Heart and Jim Jarmusch’s Dead Man hew slightly closer to the kind of experience he brings to the Plaza Theatre this week.…

Lyric Jones' debut album, Jones St. drops today, but the release party isn't happening 'til Saturday, February 18 at Apache Cafe, so you've got a full week-and-a-half to learn it, feel it, and go to the show and sing it back to her.

A few of these songs have already leaked out onto the Internet ("Trapped In The City Lights," "Gotta Go," "Loss On Repeat"), but in the context of the whole album, Jones' talents come into full view.…

Karen Handel, the former Georgia secretary of state and gubernatorial candidate who's been blamed for pushing the Susan G. Komen Foundation to stop awarding grants to Planned Parenthood, has resigned from the cancer fundraiser.

Peach Pundit points us to a resignation letter by Handel, who had served as Komen's senior vice president of public policy, posted on a Wordpress blog that's apparently dedicated to explaining the events behind the brouahaha.…

The horrifying video of three guys jumping another young man outside a Pittsburgh convenience store would appear to leave little room for debate about the attack's motive: He was beat up because he was presumed to be gay, a "faggot" as his attackers repeatedly put it.

According to WSBTV, the victim, a teenager, came forward and spoke with investigators about the incident, which he says took place on Saturday.…

Rothko play has audiences seeing Red, in a good way
            by Curt Holman
In 1958, abstract expressionist Mark Rothko agreed to paint a series of murals for a new Manhattan luxury restaurant, the Four Seasons. The $35,000 commission confirmed Rothko's rise as a major painter.…

Smith's fifth LP truly is her greatest to date
            by L. Michael Gipson
Rhythm is a dancer on Sy Smith's latest, and her fifth LP truly is Smith's greatest to date. Awash in a new wave '80s sound, the album needs a warning label: "May cause flashbacks to neon necklaces, ripped sweats, and 'Max Headroom.'" Still, with Smith and producer Mark de Clive-Lowe at the helm, the neo-throwbacks prove loads of fun.…
