Sadly, Mood Rings time together is coming to an end, at least for the time being, according to the group’s singer and guitarist William Fussell. The announcement comes with the arrival of two new songs, titled “White Strawberries” and “Milton.”

The reasons for the break in activity are unclear, but as Fussell explains: “It’s complicated, but it’s an indefinite hiatus. We all are growing up and looking forward. We have songs we have been working on but feel that some time to ourselves might be to our benefit. We all have other projects in the meantime. I am traveling over to to London to work on some of my own Promise Keeper material, and I know the other boys are working on their own music. No time to fear the future or regret the past.”

Chris Alley co-founded the band with Fussell 2009 and, according to him, it’s time to start a new chapter. “I’m turning this into an opportunity to try out something new,” Alley says. “I want to disassemble as much as possible and approach my next project without being concerned about how it will be perceived. I want there to be no expectations again.”

In the meantime, Alley is hard at work on a new project withMarshall Trotter called Yokozuna; they are playing a house show at 21 Moreland Ave. on Fri., Nov. 7.

Mood Rings’ keyboard player Seth Bolton performs as a member of the group Ill Poacher.

In addition to “White Strawberries” and “Milton,” Mood Rings has about five or six more songs to unveil over the coming weeks. And if you want to catch the group live, they’re playing the Dashboard Co-op show on Thurs., Oct. 30, with Gringo Star — possibly their last show for a quite a while.

It’s a loss for the city’s music scene, but at least in the wake of releasing one full-length, 2013’s VPI Harmony (Mexican Summer), 2011’s Sweater Weather Forever EP, and two 7-inches, the group has stamped in time a gloomy and atmospheric chapter of Atlanta music.

Mood Rings plays Dashboard Co-op on Thurs., Oct. 30, with Gringo Star, and WRAS DJs. $10. 8 p.m.
