Fahamu Pecou’s next ‘15 Project’ at High Museum

Besides being a celebrated visual artist and scholar, Fahamu Pecou is quite the character. And at the top of the new year, he’s reviving his performance art-meets-personality program, the live talk-show he calls “The 15 Project.” A nod to Andy Warhol’s now-famous saying about fame, the show focuses on art and culture and has included such guests as soul singers Angie Stone and Dionne Farris, rappers Stic.Man of dead prez and T.I., writer and professor Jelani Cobb, and Dungeon Family co-founder Rico Wade. Even the audience isn’t to be slept on. I once saw David Byrne in attendance.

In preparation for his next “15 Project” — when he’ll host artist José Parlá, outgoing Director of the High Museum Michael E. Shapiro, and production duo Rock City at the High — Pecou has dropped a commercial satire of sorts. In it, he reprises the classic street-corner harmonizing scene from New Jack City, joined by “15 Project” co-hosts and friends including DJ Kemit and Fabian “the Occasional Supestar” Williams.

In the meantime, you can catch Pecou’s current museum exhibit Fahamu Pecou: GRAV.I.TY at MOCA GA, where it runs through Feb. 14. An artist talk in conjunction with that exhibit is scheduled for Tues., Jan. 27 at 7 p.m.

The 15 Project. Free but limited seating. Doors open: 7:30 p.m. Fri., Jan. 9. High Museum of Art, 1280 Peachtree St. Tickets are available through the Woodruff Arts Center box office at 404-733-5000. www.The15Project.com.
