Water main break floods DeKalb Avenue, causes chaos for commuters

Fox Bros. BBQ still open!

A water main break forced a major stretch of DeKalb Avenue to close down, bringing traffic to a screeching halt for the better part of the morning.

Sometime around 6 a.m., a water main located near DeKalb Avenue and Elmira Place broke and flooded the road. Repair crews needed to shut down traffic in both directions between Moreland Avenue and the Candler Park MARTA station to fix the damage.

WSB-TV was on the scene and captured the flooded area:

Drivers are encouraged to stay as far away as possible from the flooded area and use McLendon Avenue as an alternative route. Despite the break, which flooded the area much as three feet in some places, Fox Bros BBQ plans to be open for business today. A little while ago, they tweeted:

Dekalb ave might be shut down but we are not! We have water and bbq! So come see us! We are open!

We’ve sent a line to city officials for more updates on the extent of the damage and how long it will take to repair the roads. If we hear back, we’ll post an update.
