Omnivore - ‘Villains’ popping up at Miso Izakaya

Villains to hold a “wicked” pop-up lunch this week

This Thursday and Friday, Villains, the forthcoming hero sandwich concept, is setting up shop for lunch at Miso Izakaya. Co-collaborators Alex Brounstein (of Grindhouse Killer Burgers) and chefs Jared Lee and Jason MccLure (formerly of HD1 and FLIP) will be on hand, slingin’ some of their “wickedly good” sandwiches like the Kingpig of Crime (sliced porchetta, garlic aoli, and pan jus on a Villain Roll) and Henchmen — AKA sides — like ramen popcorn and chicharrones.

FYI, Miso Izakaya will be closed for lunch both days, so there will be no ramen, just Villains...muahahaha. Apparently, chefs Guy Wong and Mihoko Obunai are head back to the RamenLab in New Jersey to make some adjustments to their ramen.

Officially, the pop-up lunches are scheduled for Thurs., Sept. 27 and Fri., Sept. 28., 11 a.m.-3 p.m., providing a convenient intro to what Villains is all about.

Meanwhile, the search continues for Villains’ future brick and mortar location slated to open later this year. “We are in negotiations for two locations, both existing restaurants, one in Old Fourth Ward and one in Midtown. Hopefully one will work out within a week or two and we can make an announcement,” Brounstein says.
