The urban artistic oasis that is the Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) is celebrating its 25th anniversary this month after providing Atlantans with more than two decades of diverse design exhibitions and educational programs. To honor the best local design innovations of the past 25 years, MODA has chosen 25 of their favorite designs and need the public’s help in the voting process.

According to the folks at MODA: “Our choices span industries, but they all have one thing in common: they demonstrate how design makes our city a better place.”

Nominees include the Polaris Restaurant renovation (the current leader in votes), Cartoon Network, the Atlanta Beltline, the Super Soaker (yes, the water gun), and Michael C. Carlos Museum.

Founded back in 1989 on the principle of providing the Southeast with culturally diverse contributions to the arts, MODA holds the distinction of being the Southeast’s only museum solely dedicated to design, which includes fashion, graphics, jewelry, and architecture. In the past decade alone, MODA has gone through a name change and was appointed as a Smithsonian Affiliate, a major honor for the museum and Atlanta as a whole.

MODA invites the public to join in celebrating its landmark 25th year on Thurs., Sept. 4, at the museum. The event honors architect John C. Portman, Jr., who has made a major impact on Atlanta’s cityscape design. The rankings of MODA’s 25 Atlanta Designs We Love will be revealed at the event. In the meantime, head over to their website and cast your vote.
